How to Downgrade Honista to an Older Version (2026)
Sometimes the newest version is not the best one for your phone. Maybe v13.0 crashes on your device, a feature you used every day changed, or the new version feels slow. Going back to an older Honista version can fix that — but there is one thing you need to know first: Android does not let you install an older version over a newer one. You have to uninstall Honista first, then install the older build. That means your settings will be gone unless you back them up before you start.
This guide walks you through the safe way to do it, step by step.
Before you start: back up your settings
Uninstalling Honista deletes its data from your phone, including your settings, themes, and saved preferences. So back them up first. Honista has a built-in backup option — open Honista, go to its settings, and use the backup feature to save your settings. If you want the full steps, follow our guide on how to back up Honista settings.
Also write down which version you are running now (Honista settings → About), so you can go back to it later if the older version does not work out.
Step 1: Uninstall the current Honista version
- Long-press the Honista icon on your home screen or app drawer.
- Tap Uninstall and confirm.
- Wait until it is fully removed. Do not just clear the cache — the app itself must be gone, because Android refuses to install an older version over a newer one.
If the uninstall option is greyed out, go to Settings → Apps → Honista → Uninstall.
Step 2: Get the older version from a verified source
This is the step where most people get into trouble. Random APK sites often host modified or fake files, so only download from a source you can verify. The one we have verified is Uptodown, which publishes a SHA256 hash and a certificate signature for every build.
The three older builds with a verified source are:
- v11.1 — build 367.0.0.43.91 (September 2025)
- v9.1 — build 328.0.0.42.92 (August 2024)
- v8.2 — build 303.0.0.40.111 (April 2024)
For a genuine Honista build, the certificate signature should be ed5b873bd9ea3caec9147444cc885403 and the package name cc.honista.app. If the file you downloaded shows a different signature, do not install it. Our old versions page lists these releases and explains which ones have a verified source.
A quick warning: do not download Honista from sites that promise a “Lite” APK file or a modified build with extra powers. Our guide on how to spot fake Honista download sites shows the red flags to watch for.
Step 3: Allow installation from unknown sources
Because Honista is not on the Google Play Store, Android will ask for permission before installing the APK file:
- Open Settings → Security (on some phones: Settings → Apps → Special app access).
- Turn on Install unknown apps for your browser or file manager — only for the app you are installing from.
- You can turn it off again after the install is done.
Step 4: Install the older version
- Open the downloaded APK file from your Downloads folder.
- Tap Install and wait for it to finish.
- Open Honista and log in with your Instagram account.
If the install fails, the usual causes are a corrupted download (download the file again), not enough free space (Honista needs about 151 MB for the v13 file, plus room to run — check the system requirements), or an old Android version. Our app-not-installed fix guide covers all of these.
Step 5: Restore your settings
After logging in, restore the backup you made at the start. Your themes, privacy settings, and preferences should come back. Check the download and privacy settings once, because a fresh install resets them to defaults.
Step 6: Stay on the older version (if that is what you want)
Honista is not on the Play Store, so it will not auto-update by itself. But if the app shows an update prompt, skip it — tapping update will bring you back to the newest version. If you change your mind later, our update guide shows how to move to the latest version safely.
Which older version should you pick?
- v11.1 is the safest pick for most people — it is the newest of the three verified builds, so it is the least likely to have stopped working.
- v9.1 and v8.2 are older fallbacks if v11.1 has a problem on your phone.
- Do not pick a version just because a random site lists it. If a build has no verifiable source, there is no way to know the file is genuine.
Why do old versions stop working?
This is the part nobody tells you. Honista talks to Instagram’s servers, and Instagram changes those servers over time. When that happens, an old Honista build can suddenly fail at login, stop loading the feed, or break Reels and Stories — even though nothing changed on your phone. That is why older versions are a temporary fix, not a permanent home. If an old version stops working, the honest answer is usually to move to a newer build, not to hunt for an even older one. Our not-working guide covers what to check first.
Is downgrading safe?
Downgrading itself is safe if you do two things: download from a verified source and check the file’s signature. The risk is not the downgrade — it is the download. Fake APK files are the main way phones get malware from modded apps, so never install a file you cannot verify. And remember: an older version may miss security fixes that the newer version has, so treat the downgrade as a short-term fix while you find what works on your phone.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I downgrade Honista without uninstalling it?
No. Android blocks installing an older version over a newer one, so you must uninstall Honista first. Back up your settings before you uninstall, or you will lose them.
Will I lose my settings when I downgrade?
Yes, unless you back them up first. Uninstalling deletes Honista’s data. Use Honista’s built-in backup before you start, then restore it after installing the older version.
Which old Honista version is the safest to install?
v11.1 (build 367.0.0.43.91, September 2025) — it is the newest of the three builds with a verified source on Uptodown. v9.1 and v8.2 are older fallbacks. Only install builds whose certificate signature you can verify (ed5b873bd9ea3caec9147444cc885403).
Why does an old Honista version stop working?
Instagram changes its servers over time, and old Honista builds cannot always keep up. Login, feed, Reels, or Stories can break even though nothing changed on your phone. When that happens, moving to a newer build is usually the fix.
Is it safe to download an old Honista APK from any website?
No. Only download from a source that publishes a SHA256 hash and certificate signature you can check, such as Uptodown. Random APK sites may host modified or fake files — if the signature does not match, do not install it.
